RFC 3161 timestamp

An RFC 3161 timestamp is a token from a trusted timestamp authority proving that a given hash existed at a specific time. Anakin requests one over the evidence of a completed e-signature envelope on a best-effort basis.

What is an RFC 3161 timestamp?

A timestamp authority (TSA) signs a hash of your data together with the current time, producing a token. Anyone holding the data can later show that it existed no later than that moment.

How does Anakin use it?

When an envelope completes, Anakin hashes the canonical evidence with SHA-256 and requests a token from the configured TSA, with an 8-second timeout. The default authority issues standard, non-qualified timestamps.

What are the limits?

It is best-effort: if the authority is unreachable, the envelope still completes without a token. Anakin stores and displays the token but does not validate its certificate chain locally.
